Jayshree Shah (b.1972) is a surrealist, symbolist artist based in Mumbai, who combines Indian miniature techniques with contemporary themes. After graduating in Commercial Arts from Nirmala Niketan in 1990, she spent over two decades at the leading advertising agency, Lowe Lintas, as an art director. Driven by her passion for fine arts, she returned to formal education in her mid-forties, attending Rachana Sansad College, Mumbai (2013). Shortly after completing her Fine Arts degree (2017), she met legendary miniature artist – Shri Mahaveer Swami, at his show at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. Awestruck by his work, Shah asked him to be her mentor and train her, a request that he graciously accepted. She went on to do a residency at his studio in Bikaner and studied Indian miniature painting under his tutelage.
